“You’re such a light rock guy, and that’s disgusting”

October 31, 2009

So while the vast majority of the music I listen to is of the mod era of the mid 1960′s, as well as the lounge music of the 1950s and early 60s, I have always had a weird fetish for the light rock of the 70′s(some 80s.) You see, I used to be something of a romantic guy, and I like these songs SERIOUSLY not even in some cliched ironic way. That’s right, I drive my car blaring these jams, singing along and feeling them 100%, waxing nostalgic for a long lost love, mourning a future love lost, or just troubleshooting the slow teeter tottering painful death of being in love.

I was thinking of making a light rock mix cd with all my fave light rock songs.

It would go something like this:
1. Barry Manilow “I can’t smile without you”
2. The BeeGees “How deep is your love”
3. Billy Joel “Get it right the first time”
4. Abba “The name of the game”
5. Billy Joel “Italian Restaurant”
6. Pilot “Magic”
7. Andrew Gold “Lonely Boy”
8. The Raspberries “Go All the way”
9. Edward Bear “Last Song”
10. Albert Hammond “It never rains in southern California”
11. Barry Manilow “Mandy”
12. Billy Joel “Movin out”
13. Gordon Lightfoot “If you could read my mind”

and I realize it is a faux pas to have more than one song from the same artist on a mix cd, BUT I don’t care because I get annoyed when people complain about stuff like that, and I’m the kind of guy who listens to the same song over and over so it would be a struggle not to have THE SAME SONG appear multiple times in a mix of mine. Anyways this is just for pretend.

In my next entry I will tell the stories of why I like each of these songs.
